Icicles at The Fife Arms

I am thrilled to finally be able to reveal that The Fife Arms is now my stockist. I've been working on this commission since January and am delighted that the set of twelve bespoke icicles are finally for sale (as well as sets of three and singles too.) These icicles were custom made exclusively for The Fife Arms based on twelve of the hills closest to this fine establishment in Braemar. My research was extensive, snow filled, occasionally exhausting but always enlivening as I walked the hills in all kinds of weather.

The hills are:

Meall an t-Slugain

Meikle Elrick

Morrone

Carn nan Sgliat

Creag a' Chleirich

Millstone Cairn

Creag nan Leachda

Creag Phàdruig

Carn na Drochaide

Creag Bhaig

Creag an Dail Bheag

Little Elrick

Starting with Meall an t-Slugain at the extreme left, below, the names of the hills run left to right, ending in Little Elrick, the most contemporary style. 3rd from left is Morrone, walked in white out.

The curvy bottom of each Morrone icicle has the imprint of a rock collected from Morrone on 14th February 2024, this rock pictured to be exact, which is impressed hard into the glass whilst molten on one side. You can just barely see it at the widest point of the tapering end, it looks a bit like a bubble but it's the wonderful optics of what happens when rock is pressed into moving glass. To the right, the summit only coming into view when quite close. I'll return the rock to Morrone when I walk it in the New Year. It's a bit darker on tiny edges where it was pressed into the molten glass, but it's a tough old rock.

Meikle Elrick, in all its singular beauty.

All icicle photos courtesy of The Fife Arms. The icicles are available online only, from today, but will be available in store in early October. These Cairngorm National Park, Braemar-hill inspired icicles are only available from The Fife Arms. They've made stunning boxes impressed with topographic hills in three different colours one each for the singles, sets of three, and set of twelve. The shop staff are amazing. You can eat there too (the fish pie is so good), have drinks in one over the top room after another, and even spend the night. And I have kept the lid on this for 8 and a half months. So glad to finally be able to share it with you.
